I see you, Mama

I see you, Mama.

I witness your sharp, quick movements to serve and delight others.

The smoothie catch, before it crashes to the floor,

The deep lunge to intercept a bonk of the tender head on a table.

Hyper vigililant wolf-mama moving  at the speed needed by the pack. But does she get to pause and howl at the moon with the others?

I see you, Mama.

You deeply ache for the depth you once knew; often expressed in the gift of slowness.

What a juicy treat it would be to move at a snail’s pace, eyes half-mast. Imagine letting your nervous system lull itself to a sloth-like metranome.

Your magic is in your pulse. Who says you must give it all away?

What if you could reclaim it, lay your back on the warm grass and tell life, the moon, the pack, “I’ll just be here a while.” 

_ Not, ”if you need me”

_ Not, “...and then I will get dinner started”

Just laying on the earth because your animal body says yes.

Yes, please.

What hedonistic wonder, if all mama’s paused the scutter, laid on the grass, faces towards the amber sun - what would our world look like, then?

May you continue to be in service of your sweet self, amidst the nipple cream, the nights of rinsing vomit from your organic mattress, amidst touring school after school in search of the goldilocks feeling that, ah yes, you are worthy of the presence of my sweet, golden child.

In the sharp, jagged movements of motherhood, may you remember that you are still a slow and steady force. You are not the waves, but the sea bed below. You are the dark and the mystery.

Maybe these parts will never see the full light, maybe they will never be offered up naked under the torch of the full moon, and perhaps that is exactly why their magic enchants us.

Until then, may we all lay with our backs on the grass, may we plant our bodies to the earth and say,  “I’ll just be here a while.”
