Ep 20. 🤑 What If Being Messy AF Made You more Money?
I’ve been thinking a LOT about perfection—how it creeps in, how it shapes our work, and how it can sneakily block our success. I was super transparent last year that I had a really hard year in business. And ironically, once I got my P&L, I realized I actually made more money than ever… but also spent more than ever. Some investments were amazing. Others? Meh. I felt super overleveraged, questioning what actually works in my business, what brings me joy, what delivers the best results for my clients—because that is what keeps people coming back.
Breaking Free from the “Expert” Noise & Returning to My Magic
When I think about the early days of my biz—whether it was my nutrition and yoga career or now in business mentorship and strategy—it all started with desire. I was lit the f*ck up. It started as a twinkle in my eye, turned into something people wanted, then a side hustle, then—boom—I was running a business.
And then? The experts came in. “Do it this way. This is the right way.” And before I knew it, I wasn’t even doing what I wanted to do anymore. I was overcomplicating everything, watering myself down, trying to fit into a formula. Sound familiar?
When I hit my first six-figure year, what was I doing? Running around like a maniac (yes, a little burnt out), but also SO alive. So magnetic in my energy. Pure joy-based, pleasure-based marketing. Talking about what I loved, sharing what fascinated me, researching what made me curious. And that energy? That’s what attracted people.
So, this year, I’m going back to my roots. No more hyper-formatted, polished emails we spend hours refining. I want my marketing to feel like OG Instagram—just snapping a pic and posting it. Simple. Raw. Fun.
Why Being a Mess is Actually My Best Sales Strategy
I was just on my friend Haley’s podcast, Million Dollar Moves, and she asked, “What’s working for you in sales right now?”
And I laughed.
Because honestly? Being a f*cking mess.
When we post a perfectly edited, formatted reel? Engagement is meh. But when I hop on IG stories, sweaty, hair in a bun, unloading the dishwasher and just talk? People love it. Why? Because it’s real. Because it’s human. Because that is how we connect.
The Sneaky Ways Perfectionism Blocks Your Revenue & Visibility
So let’s get honest: Is there any way you’re blocking your own success?
Are you telling yourself:
“I can’t launch the program until my tech is better.”
“I can’t post this until I have a better design.”
“I can’t facilitate the training until I have more experience.”
Girl, stop. That’s perfectionism in disguise. And what I’ve learned from being in masterminds with six, seven, and even a few eight-figure entrepreneurs? High earners move quickly. They don’t wait for perfect. They don’t let overthinking stall their progress. They lean into agility, into chaos, into creation.
How to Sell the Way You Serve (So Your Marketing Feels Like You)
If you’re a graphic designer, your marketing should be visual. If you’re a writer, it should be written. If you’re a speaker, it should be spoken.
I always say: Sell the way you serve.
So, if you’re an accountant, you probably shouldn’t have chaotic, messy marketing—people need to trust you with their numbers. But if you’re in coaching, personal development, creative work? Messy, unfiltered, raw content builds connection.
People don’t buy what you do. They buy who you are.
I work with the coolest accountant ever—she’s a hyper-liberal, artist/bookkeeper, and I love her. Not because she’s the best at numbers, but because she gets me. She makes it fun. She brings her personality into her work.
So my invitation to you? Let us in. Let us see your weird, your joy, your quirks. THAT is what makes you magnetic.
The Simple Shift for Sustainable Visibility (Without Burnout)
Let’s talk sales. Because we all know: No sales, no business.
I had this realization while feeding my daughter. One day, she was losing it after school, totally melting down. Turns out? She hadn’t eaten lunch. Her blood sugar was gone.
And I realized: This is exactly how people treat sales.
They wait until their revenue is crashing, then panic and start marketing frantically. Instead of just… feeding their audience consistently.
Marketing isn’t an emergency button. It’s a ritual. Like eating. Like moving your body. Something you do daily, so you never have a “starvation” moment.
So here’s my dare for you: Be messy. Be raw. Show up unfiltered. And do it often.
This isn’t just about being seen. It’s about showing up in a way that makes you feel alive.
You are good enough. Your words, your voice, your ideas—as they are—are enough.
Now, go create. Write the post. Record the video. Pitch the offer. Show up. And if you want support?
